A day after he and his team were manhandled in the city of Jaipur, Director-Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali released a statement about his upcoming movie Padmavati.
There is no dream sequence or any objectionable scene between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji. We have been carefully researching and making the film. In spite of this, the attack on the shoot and crew was uncalled for and was extremely damaging to the image of the beautiful city of Jaipur.
A group called as Karni Sena ransacked the premises of the shoot after news emerged that a love scene was being shot between lead cast Ranveer Singh, who depicts Allaudin Khilji and Deepika Padukone, who is Queen Padmavati.
Both the stars took to Twitter to express their anguish post the incident.
As Padmavati I can assure you that there is absolutely no distortion of history.#Padmavati
As a team, we are making ‘Padmavati’ keeping in mind the sensitivities and emotions of the people of Rajasthan and the Rajput community.
The police had detained 5 people in connection with the incident but they were soon let off. Assault on the director received flak from the film industry who are now demanding increased safety measure at movie sets.
