A state that up until now was considered as a model state in India’s fight against Covid is now slowly losing its grip over the pandemic, Karnataka recorded its biggest single-day spike of 4,169 COVID-19 cases and 104 deaths.
With this COVID-19 cases in Karnataka breached the 50,000-mark. However on the brighter side the day also saw a record 1,263 patients getting discharged after recovery.
The state capital city continues to remain a cause for concern, out of 4,169 fresh cases reported, a whopping 2,344 cases were from Bengaluru urban alone.
Records reveal that out of 30,655 active cases, 30,116 patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable, while 539 are in ICU.
This spike comes at a a time when State Health Minister was slammed by the opposition for saying that ‘only God who can save us’ while he briefed media over the situation in Karnataka.
Kerala Gold Smuggling case: Senior IAS officer suspended
In what can be termed as a major development in Gold smuggling case linked to UAE Consulate in Kerala, state government has senior IAS officer M Sivasankar in connection with his suspected links with the accused.
Sivasankar who is the principal secretary to the chief minister and IT secretary has been removed from his post after a high-level panel headed by Chief Secretary, Dr Vishwas Mehta found the official hadviolated All India Service Rules, Vijayan.
Sivasankar now faces departmental level inquiry over this case. The Customs is probing whether Sivasankar had used hisoffice to provide any help to key accused– Sarith, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair.
The case gained nationwide limelight after customs seized the gold addressed to UAE Consulate, weighing over 30 kg and valued at around Rs 15 crore on July 5.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s death: Rhea Chakraborty writes to Amit Shah
Actor Rhea Chakraborty took to her social media account and requested Home Minister Amit Shah to launch a CBI probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in order to understand why the late actor took this step.
Rhea said that has “complete faith” in the government, a CBI inquiry would help bring justice to the case.
Earlier in the day, Rhea took to her instagram page to reveal that she has been receiving rape and death threats ever since Rajput’s death, with several netizen blaming the actress for his suicide.
Sushant Singh Rajput died on June 14th after he committed suicide in his Bandra residence in Mumbai, the actor was reportedly battling depression.
Mumbai Police has up until now questioned several people in this case including Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Actress Sanjana Sanghi and Rhea herself.
