Centre: Herd immunity can’t be a choice or an option in India

While putting a rest to Herd Immunity debate, Health Ministry has made it clear that the idea of herd immunity can neither be a choice or an option for a country like India.

Herd immunity can’t be a choice or option,
Herd immunity comes at a very high cost,
Lakhs will be infected, many will die,
Herd immunity is far away in future,
Follow COVID-appropriate behaviour,
Maintain distance till a vaccine comes

Rajesh Bhushan, Officer On Special Duty, Ministry of Health

Herd immunity against a disease occurs when a population becomes immune to it through vaccination or through immunity developed through infection.
